How To Give Your Lawn The Resources It Needs

by Terri Holmes

While grasses are everywhere and are very hardy, grass can surprisingly use a large number of resources. You will need to make sure that your lawn has the resources, by fertilizing your lawn regularly so that your grass won't have brown patches and will be very vibrant.

Choose the Right Soil

Make sure that the area where you are planting your grass is capable of supporting grass. For example, the grass needs to be planted in an area where it will be exposed to enough sun.

You will need to make sure that your soil has the right pH and that the soil is not too sandy or has too much clay to support a lawn. Otherwise, you might need to make changes to your lawn. Fortunately, a lawn care company will be able to test your soil to determine if it is suitable for planting grass. If it is not suitable, you will be able to use soil amendments to improve the condition of your soil.

Don't Fertilize Too Much

You will need to feed your lawn with fertilizer regularly. The number of times a year you should fertilize your lawn depends on where your lawn is located. While fertilizer is a great thing for your lawn, it's important to not use too much fertilizer because it can actually hurt your grass.

For example, if you use too much nitrogen, you can cause your grass to experience nitrogen burn. The excess fertilizer will also be washed away and will end up hurting other plants. Only apply the amount of fertilizer that is recommended on the bag.

Water Your Lawn

Another resource your lawn needs is water. A common mistake that homeowners make is to assume that the grass will be fine because it rained outside. However, this isn't true because much of the water might evaporate and it might simply not rain enough.

It can take time to build the type of lawn that you want to have. Therefore, you will want to work with a lawn care service that will allow you to create the right foundation for your lawn so that it will look great when your lawn has fully grown. A lawn care service will also be able to plant your lawn properly and will also avoid planting the seeds too close to a rainstorm which could cause the seeds to rot. Then, you'll be able to enjoy your beautiful lawn.
